The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne was written in 1850. It depended on the Puritans of the 1600's, which were resuscitated in Hawthorne's period. Hawthorne slipped from Puritan legacy and held a feeling of blame and scorn for their lifestyle. He utilized numerous subjects and artistic strategies in The Scarlet Letter including imagery and incongruity. He underlined the person's job in the network and the job of ladies in the public arena. Hawthorne utilized sentimentalism instead of the old style accuracy of composing. Sentimentalism was an aesthetic and scholarly development that started in the eighteenth Century and focused on forceful feeling and creative mind. Rigidity was the conviction that all people are wicked and that it is just however God and the good book that one can discover reclamation. Hawthorne didn't concur with their way of thinking. "The inclination of that Hawthorne had for calling horrendous things 'Puritanic' means that he dismissed Puritanism†¦" (Gerber, p.41) He felt they were wolves in sheep's clothing and protrayed them as stodgy and disappointed. They experienced their lives giving penance or sins they were brought into the world with. Unexpectedly, Hawthorne's compositions appeared to be only that-reparation for his eventual sin, the puritan legacy that he was brought into the world with.      Even thought The Scarlet Letter set in 1642 in New England, it was written in 1850 at the restoration of Puritanism.
